ARTIST INFORMATION:Kyan Bishop was born in South Korea and was raised in northern Minnesota. She is a sculptor and installation artist whose work has been included in numerous galleries and alternative exhibition spaces around the country. She has experience teaching ceramics and sculpture and has participated in several artist residencies.
Her sculpture and installation work is often built by creating accumulations of simple, yet expressive forms that provide for an enriched understanding of the human experience. Repetition is an important aspect of her work and her interest in constructive processes creates a visual language that is unified by a sense of order and stability. While at times highly referential in nature, Bishop views her work as an intimate exploration of space, time and reflection upon the human experience.
Between 2007 and 2010, Bishop served as a Board member of the Washington Sculptors Group, a membership organization of sculptors, collectors and gallerists based in the Washington, D.C. area. She has an undergraduate degree from Denison University in Economics and Spanish and a Studio Art degree from Montgomery College. Bishop resides in Washington, D.C. and her studio is located in Brentwood, MD.
